SRK back in action with a bang!! A Jawan review and discussion.
Shah Rukh
Khan is making his
big screen comeback in 2023 with the two massive action thriller films Pathaan
and Jawan. Many people are unaware that SRK began his career as an
action hero in films like Darr, Baazigar, and others before the release of the
cult hit DDLJ; thus, this comeback is similar to SRK's cycle repeating itself.
The
second-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, Pathaan, which debuted on
January 25th, has already been a massive hit at the box office. It has amassed
over 1000cr rupees globally. It is now up to Jawan to surpass this milestone
achieved by SRK itself.
Jawan is an action thriller movie with
multiple stars, including SRK, Nayanthara, and Vijay
Sethupathy. Atlee, a well-known Tamil director, directed Jawan,
which is more of a pan-Indian picture than a Hindi or Bollywood production
while being marketed as an Anirudh musical.
Without
giving anything away, Jawan centres on a guy who is determined to right the
wrongs in society in an effort to atone for his past, motivated by a personal
grudge and honouring a promise he made years ago.
Let's start
with my review of Jawan, and don't worry, I'll do my best not to reveal any
spoilers or say anything that isn't depicted in the trailer or other
promotional videos.
Now,lets talk about the things which I did not like:
· Jawan focuses on many social issues that are crucial to our society and that should be discussed in our nation, but the film has the problem that there are too many of these issues and not enough opportunities for reflection.
The quickness and convenience with which the solutions and answers are
discovered can even put Anil Kapoor's portrayal of Nayak: The Real Hero
to shame.
· Vijay Sethupathy, who is
as skilled as he is, is never given a chance to showcase his abilities on
stage. By the end, you don't even feel worried or afraid for our major leads
since you can't take his character seriously. This is the one aspect of Pathaan
that surpasses Jawan, where Jim, played by John Abraham, is a much more
compelling and terrifying antagonist.
Now,lets talk about the points which I absolutely loved about the movie:
· This is one of SRK's most massiest
films in his long career. You'll see SRK acting like an absolute lunatic in one
scene and dancing to infectious music in another, and you'll see him delivering
these corny dialogues with the background music literally going massey massey.
You'll quickly realise that you must watch this movie in a theatre packed with
SRK fans if you want the same unforgettable experience.
· By the trailer itself, people
realised that we are going to have SRK in different avatars in different
timelines and the appreciation should be given to the make-up team of the movie
which makes it very believable and not jarring like many other movies.
· The quality of this film as a whole
is significantly influenced by the cinematography and visual effects. This
quality of visual effects is especially welcome after the catastrophic Adipurush. The
film's cinematography also effectively draws you in from the very first frame
and gives you a chance to catch your breath in between the fast-paced action
sequences.
· This movie is heavily marketed as an
Anirudh musical, however despite the mid-music that was published before the
movie, the background music in this movie has a personality all its own and
significantly contributes to the action moments' dopamine release.Whether it's
the original Jawan theme or the previously stated Massey theme, it definitely
improves the film's quality, notably by making the already excellent interval
block even better.
· The teaser also shows that Deepika
Padukone plays a minor role in the movie. Despite her limited screen time,
she has a pivotal impact on the plot and a standout sequence opposite Vijay
Sethupathy.
· The girls army shown in the marketing clips also does what is need to be done and are shown in a very positive manner with Sanya Malhotra shining amongst them the most
Jawan is a true massy picture that is
quite similar to previous Atlee films yet represents a whole new genre for the
Hindi cinema enjoyers.
Therefore,
it's a good family movie to watch, especially during the first few weeks, since I
believe audiences will appreciate it to the most in a crowded theatre.
What do you
think of the film, though?
Do you think
it is superior to Pathaan?
And what
elements could have been added or taken away to improve the quality?
